A coffe simular to Bolivian Buenaventura Lot 45

Postby Calex » Thu May 03, 2012 5:19 am

HI, I have been roasting for a few months now and love Bolivian Buenaventura. I have not found anything to replace it since it is currently unavailable. Does anyone have a suggestion to try other than Ecuador Organic El Batan Microlot or El Salvador Majahual -Tablon La Montana. Both were good, but not the same smoothness and sweetness of the Bolivian. I have got every one at work hooked on real coffee now, and we are looking for a replacement that is near to our favorite.

I have been roastinf for about 5 months and the BB is my favorite as well! It was the first and best bean I roasted. It may not return; not sure what the likelihood is. I also love the Brazil No-Name, which is also gone. I tried the Bolivia Centropro at FC and it is not as smooth or sweet as BB. I have found another crowd pleaser; Ethiopia Illububor Camp. Well rounded coffee - see cupping review. Sweet, chocolatey, and smooth at FC+. I just bought ten pounds - my biggest purchase of a single coffee so far. Give it a try! I think I have come to accept that good coffees come and go and I trust Sweet Maria's to find my next favorite. Another, completely different, coffee I have come to love is the Indonesia Flores. Enjoy the journey ;)

When I ordered my hot air roaster 10 weeks ago, I ordered it from a supplier other than Sweet Maria's because the price was a little less, even though I'd already realized that Sweet Maria's would be my future source for green beans. It was poor economy. The place where I bought my roaster and sampler pack has exactly the same beans now that they had then; no new ones and none that have disappeared. Although that supplier gives no information about when they received the beans, some of them clearly suffer from being past their prime. I never tried the Bolivian Buenaventura Lot 45 so I can't say what other bean might have a similar profile. Although I've liked every one of the many SM beans I've tried, the still-available Columbia Dos Payasos de Tolima is possibly my favorite.

Big Bells, I'm going to try the Columbia Dos Payasos de Tolima next time I order beans. I looked at the cupping scores and it looks like a great coffee!

Thanks for the great suggestions, sorry a reply took so long. I got stuck off shore all week. But, I came home to four pounds of new coffee samples. I tried another batch of Bolivian and am really enjoying the results. Also I found my popper was cooking way to fast, 5min max to 2nd crack. I moved it out to my shop(40 feet of romex farther) and plugged it into a extension cord. The results were a much slower and cooler popper and a longer cook time, 8-10 min. The first batch turned out very nice. Thanks again Sweet Marias for excellent product and service.

I should have checked here before I ordered. I also loved the BB.

I am trying some more floral coffees next (to go with the Yama Tabletop Vacpot I ordered):

1. Ethiopian Yirga
2. Hawaii kona

I also ordered
3. Espresso workshop #23
4. Yemen Mokha Sharasi

The last 2 should work great with Miss Silvia!

How is the Ethiopia Illububor Camp, Hill Girl?

The Ethiopian Illububor Camp Cooperative is a crowd pleaser. I roast it FC+. It's drinkable the next day, unlike many roasts. Friends and family love it. Check out the cupping scores - it's a pretty well-rounded cup.

I will have to get some soon!

My inventory is going up, though, with my last order!

Sometimes I like to mix some Monkey Blend into my Ethiopian Illubabor Camp Cooperative, after roasting both separately.
