Any comments on this one? Sounds like a nice lot. What sort of fruits are you finding? How's a straight shot espresso light roast? I still have some vac. packed DP Koratie and Bonko from last year but this one is tempting.

It is wonderful....roast some!!! To me, it had vanilla, subtle Earl Grey (similar to but less than a Kenya AA Nyeri Tambaya, for example), honeysuckle/floral and dried apricot (which was the most subtle flavor of all). I am too new to home roasting to give you a comparison to any other to Ethiopians ...but I can say that this is fantastic!

FYI: I just roasted two batches of this a few days ago, using a West Bend Popper I. I roasted it to City plus. Both batches were roasted for 9 minutes. Brewed it in a Moka pot and drank it with some milk. I tried one cup at 24 hour rest and another at 48 hours.

Post your thoughts once you roast this...if and when you do. It is always fun to find out what flavors other people find in a cup :)

Dried strawberry infusion, tending towards blueberry juice. Satiny body. Floral.

edit:

Just cupped a week out of the roaster: 4:00 to 300, 3:15 from 300-400, 3:30 from 400-425.
dry: cherry coke
wet: sweet berries
aroma: melon, raisin, berries
flavor: juicy berries, honeysuckle
body: satin
finish: dry, clean

Very consistent since fresh roasted. A great coffee!

endlesscycles - great review...I especially liked the format which was concise and easy to read (as opposed to my rambling review).

A lot of times I go through Tom's reviews I have no idea of some of the flavors/smells he describes. I mean, I never heard of some of these things, much less know what it smells/tastes like. Ironic then that with this coffee, I swear to you I smelled Durian in the wet fragrance.

This bean makes for a wonderful, occasional cup.

Got anothr 5 Lbs. in this week and put it in my iRoast2 it is just bursting with fruit flavor and fruit scents!!!
Wish I could figure how to get the same type of cup from my Behmor. It just seems to mute brightness and fruitiness. If anyone has some tips for doing that .........Speak UP!

What did you roast your beans to ? I roast my first batch to a full city + pull 450 degrees just a 2 crack. I am tasting a more spicy flavor, I was wondering if I pull a little sooner if the would help producing the fruity flavors.

This bean only needs to go to a city or city+ for brewing if you are talking about roasting for SO shots, that is WAY above my paygrade...

I know I'm coming in the tail end of this lot, but I couldn't resist commenting. Man! Out of the 18 lbs. of coffees I ordered, this is by far my favorite! There are so many flavors going on here. I'm not going to attempt to describe them since I'm a noob, but this coffee is outstanding! I noticed it was sold out just after I bought 2lbs, so I hope I can find another coffee as good as this one.

On a side note, I've learned I prefer the brighter, fruitier, citrusier coffees of Africa. Africa is where its at for me.
