Curiosity question on the new Expresso Workshop blends.

Postby nctomatoman » Wed Oct 21, 2009 3:51 pm

I've read through pretty all of Sweet Maria's info on the new Workshop blends - what isn't clear to me is if they can be used for brewed coffee, say in a French Press pot. (well, I suppose no one would come and arrest me if I did so!)....but what would one expect? Do they make interesting/decent/worthwhile brewed coffee, or are they definitely targeted exclusively to expresso?

yeah- I think that it's fair game to brew anything and whatever how you like, i.e. French press. I think that good beans are good beans. Some are better with milk, etc, or straight shots, and I like the brecchia blend or the treble as just straight brews but it's all good. SOme people might shoot me down but I think it's good to try anything straight up .

From the way he writes them, the only blend I've noticed saying anything specifically about mediocrity as a brewed coffee is the Espresso Monkey. Everything else seems to work either way, and I've had some very good FP with the Breccia and Moka.

I haven't actually experimented much with brewing the workshop blends, but since they're all designed around a pretty light degree of roast, I think you'd have good results. I always like to pull SO shots of coffees I roast for drip, but maybe I need to start brewing anything I roast for espresso, too!

I say go for it. I've had some great results with the french press on some of the blends
