However, I will say for the purpose I'm using them for now (short term storage) it will still work well, as I'm just pumping out the excess daily, because they are laying on the counter with easy access until I brew'em up. So overall I'm very happy with using them them for this purpose. As for longer term usage for green beans, I'll know more after my experiment. I'll report back about the "degassing" issue soon.

The roasted would be releasing co2 in the vacuumed bag which should not harm the beans (that's what preserves them while green.). o2 is the evil one.

I came up with an idea on storing green, roasted, and ground coffee that you might find very interesting. Remember a product advertised on TV (almost all of these don't work as advertised) which was plastic storage tubs that keep fruits and vegetables from spoiling as fast? These actually work. Currently I am using them to store the three coffees above. Now, I can't say with assurance that this really works for coffee but why not? You can buy this product at CVS drugstores for about $10 (mine was a gag gift). I put a ripened but still yellow banana in one container and it was still yellow after a week. The containers are an ugly green but if they work especially for roasted and ground coffee, who cares? These plastic Tupperware type tubs are made of a plastic that lets the gas out that fruit and vegetables produce which makes them ripen. The question is: Does coffee produce the same gas? I think it is a good chance that it does. However it won't be the first time I was wrong.

I usually run my A/C in the summer months just enough to pull a little humidity out and keep the house at about 80 degrees. While that seems high to most folks, I'm comfortable because I keep enough fans running to keep me cool. The humidity can run pretty high here too, so I'm concerned about just leaving my beans out as they come shipped. The info at this site says "if you're comfortable, so are your beans". Problem is, what's comfortable to me (at least as I've described) may not be the norm. So.. my question is.... Would I be better off putting them in the fridge or freezer, or is 80 degrees and perhaps a little more humidity than the normal home going to be ok? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have the exact same situation here. Taiwan is fairly hot and humid in the summer, and I don't like to use too much air conditioning. Is vacuum sealing the best method in my situation? What about using those oxygen absorbers? Would it be redundant to use them with vacuum sealing? Is it possible to use oxygen absorbers in lieu of vacuum sealing altogether?

Has anyone tried the Oxo Pop containers for storing roasted coffee?

They seal with the push of a button and the plastic is BPA free.

I picked up one of the containers and they seem to work incredible. They are on the pricier side but I tend to believe that you get what you pay for.

I would be interested to hear whether anyone has used these.
