KitchenAid Pro Line burr grinder

Does anyone have experience with the KitchenAid Pro Line burr grinder? It gets good ratings on Amazon and at Coffee Geek. I see that it's a flat burr grinder rather than conical. I don't know if that makes a difference.

You'll get better answers from others, but I would suggest it depends on what you want to use it for. Espresso geeks would probably recommend something else. Grinders have become very personal and name brands seem to mean a lot to many of us. I would trust CoffeeGeek for enthusiast opinions, but not Amazon. I don't see many of them listed on this forum, but that doesn't mean it isn't adequate.

I had one for a short time. It generated a lot of fines (dust) and inconsistent particle sizes. Maybe OK for french press or drip, but definitely not for espresso. My advice would be to avoid this grinder.

It is not consistent, lots of fines as mentioned above, and always drops a mess on the counter.

Not worth it.

Solis Maestro, refurbished, from this site was a good buy for me.

I bought one a couple of years ago but was not impressed. It doesn't grind consistently and there's always 2 or 3 beans that get hung up in the path to the burrs. I bought a Grindmaster 875 off of Craigslist for $75, a much better grinder. They have them on Ebay, BUnn and Grindmaster are both good grinders, I don't know how they are for expresso.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll take a pass on this grinder and look elsewhere.

Solis Maestro is a fairly high end unit for a good price. I'm impressed with mine.

Yeah buy a Baratza product.... if u want it to last a few months and crap out on u or have parts breakage.

The Pro Line is a great grinder for the money. With a few simple mods it can be fantastic and will work quite well for espresso even without the burr transplant.... contrary to what some say...

Hi,

I have purchaised KitchenAid grinder. It works great for mokka/French press/..., but not that well with my Isomac Tea.

I have change settings to allow 1 step finer grinding.

What other modifications have you in mind? I was even thinking of taking pile and mille burrs by hand.

There are several good mods for the Pro Line grinder. I do agree it's not perfect for espresso out of the box, but if you make it stepless that helps quite a bit. By far the best mod is doing a burr transplant, in which Mazzer Mini burrs are put into the Pro Line. Does involve a bit of work, but makes this grinder superb...
