Re: Behmor Roasts - Open Log

Indeed, I've been only doing P1 roasts. That was an attempt to gauge the effect of full power. Btw, Gregr, your post was super-descriptive. Thanks! CONFESSION: I did a roast that never made it on the spreadsheet. Why? Because I failed to log it  It was a P4 with half a pound of Columbian. (I'm...

Re: Behmor Roasts - Open Log

Gonna have to try this. I moved to P3 some time back, slightly different profile. The single distinguishing characteristic of P3: there is never a hint of bitterness. Never any char. But never any grassiness, just sweet caramel. I think you have to reduce the temp at the end to "let the roast c...

[Behmor 1600] Lazy 1lb-B-P1 for all roasts safe? Sensible?

As soon as I got my Behmor 1600, I tried it out with 1/2 lb of Sumatra Blue Batak Tarbarita Peaberry. I dutifully pressed the 1/2 and B buttons, figuring I can press stop whenever I want and I don't care about a roast profile much. ...

Re: Behmor Roasts - Open Log

Hello folks- I still consider myself a noob... there's so much to learn about coffee roasting but I want to pass along a couple things I've learned in the 100 or so roasts I've done in the last year. Firstly-- I suggest you give P3 a try with that Sumatra you've been working on (MichaelBrooklyn). I ...

Re: Behmor P2 question

Finding a protocol that works for you is the best place to start. I only do the "cook it low, cook it slow" protocol 'cuz I lived in Kansas City for 30 years - the BBQ capital of known life - :D Actually, you can pick up a good digital scale for under $10, and it's an excellent "first...

Re: Behmor P2 question

My scale is a digital from a yard sale. It very well could be off. Also, I did not re-weigh after shaking out the smalls, so I could have been roasting 12.25 - 13.25 oz. A lot of small beans shake out, both before and during roasting. I am totally inexperienced w/ espresso. It tastes good to me, is ...

Re: New Behmor and First Roast

Just plug it back in and press cool, you can always press cool and the machine will start cooling. If you pulled the plug half way through the roast, then you'd have a problem as the start button won't work once it's hot.

Re: Behmore first roast problems

I am very new to the Behmor as well, and had a very very similar experience (accidentally hit OFF button instead of cool, on first roast) Here are some things I have learned both in roasting and from these boards: ⋅ Select ...

Behmore first roast problems

I've been roasting in a Poppery II for about 8 months. I bought a Behmore a couple weeks ago. First roast was a Veracruz coffee someone brought me from Mexico. I did 1/2 lb. P1. P1 started countdown at 10 minutes.I Thought it was suppose to be 12 minutes? ...
